Breed personality, characteristics & temperament
The Basset Fauve de Bretagne is a hound through and through and loves to give chase at the slightest movement or sound. Keeping these skills under control during a walk is relatively easy provided it is taught to respond to commands from an early age.
Compatibility with other pets
In general, this dog gets along well with other pets in the home. However, as with most breeds, introducing it to other animals is most effective during its first six months.
Care requirements
Regular combing of the coat is an essential part of the Basset Fauve de Bretagne’s care routine and, depending on the condition of the coat, may require the occasional professional grooming session. Excess hair in the ear passage should be removed and the claws trimmed on a regular basis.

Ideal owners
Being a hunting dog, the Basset has energy to burn and will need plenty of space to roam and explore around the home. Potential owners must be prepared for regular, lengthy walks to keep it in peak condition.
